"On spirit animals and personality: exploration of an animistic concept"
Abstract
The concept of a 'spirit animal', an animal that represents a person's personality and 'soul', exists in many civilizations as well as modern neo-shamanistic groups and popular culture. This study examines if such a relation between a person's personality and their chosen spirit animal exists. An online study using the IPIP VIA questionnaire was conducted with 323 participants. The data was analyzed using a MANOVA and found a significant (p<0.01) relation between the 24 personality scales of the VIA and the chosen animal while controlling for education, age, sex and religiousness. Further analyses using ANOVAs yielded significant relations on 8 of the 24 scales. There is evidence that the concept of a 'spirit animal' might hold scientific merit and further research in this field is encouraged.Hier geht es zum Volltext der Studie, sobald das Paper fertig ist: -Link folgt-
